I taught a LANDSCAPE class at Quilter's Heaven
this week.
It was a class that forced
traditional
quilters to think outside their
comfort zone because there was
NO PATTERN and they practiced
freemotion thread arts. We made up the mountain scene as we created. I think you can tell by the smile on
their faces that they were very happy with themselves.They all still have"homework" but I am so proud of them for trying the new technique.!

MONTANA ANNIE GOT HER BIG BUCK

My daughter-in-law, Annie got her big buck today.
My son Jim and Annie live in Great Falls, Montana.
Hunting is a way of life for many in Montana and I am
sure come Monday morning, Jim will be brag'n
to all his co-workers about his "Annie Oakley!"

Sense of Touch

PostCardMailArt is a fiber postcard group
on yahoo. I love this group. It gets my
creative juices moving. We make tons
of our little pieces of art that we mail all
around the world. Its like having a pen pen or
swapping my postcard for yours like my brothers
did with their beloved baseball cards.

Usually the swaps have a criteria or theme.
This particular swap is call "A Sense of Touch."
The criteria was about surface design. The swaps
I enjoy the most are the ones that lots of different
fibers are incorporated.

The First Big Frost

Chicagoland had its first hard frost today. I am NOT READY for winter! I hate winter. I want to retire to Utopia.
I want to live by the ocean. I dream for a place that is sunny all year long, the temperature is always between 65 to 80 degrees and it only rains at night. Oh, it would be a bonus if there was a money tree out my back deck too.

What Do Angels Look Like?

This morning I was thinking about a new swap that I
am putting together in my postcard group in yahoo.

What do angels look like?

I could show a pictures of my granddaughter, Rylan
because when you look into her precious little face,
anyone would say, "What an angel."
Some nights when I get home late from work and I
am really pooped... that pizza guy looks like an angel to me.
When Dave bought my mid arm for me because I
wanted to do my own quilting... ohhhh I treated him like
a super angel for quite a few nights.
And when I am down or sad and I close my eyes,
put my hands together to pray...those angels are
beautiful, mysterious and glorious.

CUTE BAGS

Aren't these little bags so cute? Each square is only 1 1/2 inches finished.
The bags are easy. They are even easier to
enlarge. I used the tutorial at a very nice blog called Pink Penguin. I have the link listed under my favorite blogs and site on the right.----------------------------->

I made 15 of them to give as gift during the holidays to my beloved mini bee friends.

After making 3 of them exactly as the direction stated, I experimented. Now I have cute bags that are larger, quilted and embellished with a food safety removable lining. I'm going use them to carry my holiday banana bread to my "special" neighbors and friends.

Another Wonkie Quilt

I made this wonkie African Animal quilt
to show off the new fabric at the quilt store. It turned out pretty cute and I love the bold colors.

Paper Piecing Class

I took a paper piecing class by McMeeking. Her quilts represent the tiled floors in Italy. Aren't they beautiful?
I love to paper piece and really hope I can finish this quilt sometime in my lifetime!

DO YOU LOVE BANANA BREAD?

My family loves my Banana Bread.
And I love fall because I can finally
start baking again. (summer is just
too hot to turn on the oven.)
Today was a great day. I spent most of
the day in the kitchen and when the bread
was baking, I slipped into my studio
to work on these cute little fabric
baskets I'm making for gifts.

Here is my Banana Bread Recipe if you would
like to try it. Tell me what you think.
Makes 3 large loaves.

Oven temp 350 degrees.
Bake time:55-65 minutes

Add all ingredients in large bowl. DO NOT over mix. Mix until all ingredients are moistened. Use your spatula to scrap down bowl after a minute of mixing on medium speed.

5 level cups all purpose flour
2 cup sugar
2 1/2 Tablespoons baking powder
2 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon banana extract
1/2 cup salad oil
1 1/2 cups milk
3 eggs
2 cups finely chopped walnuts
(if you put your nuts in a plastic storage bag and use your rolling pin to pound--there is no mess)

Oil and flour your bread pans. Hint: I spray my pans with bakers spray and then put a lining of wax paper on the bottom and spray again. You wont have any bread sticking with this technic.

My Granddaughter HAS TALENT

Rylan has found the joy of picking her nose! And as any good grandma would say "Isnt she the cutest?"

Halley's Comet

What happened to the light show? I was really looking forward to observing the bits of debris from Halley's Comet interact with Earth's atmosphere. The Orionid display was supposed to be most intense between 1 a.m. (Wednesday morning actually) and 6 a.m. We went out side at midnight (maybe Halley will come early?) and I cant see a thing. The sky is overcast in Chicagoland. We were up at 4:30am and ITS RAINING. I missed the great experience because of clouds. Well, I guess I will have to wait for the next time Halley's Comet breaks up for us to witness. I only have to be patient for 76 years!

Noah's Arc

I made this quilt for my grand daughter.
I really enjoyed the simplicity and colors of the blocks that I just couldn't stop. I had so many extra blocks that I made another.
"Very fun quilt to make." Those words hardly ever come out of my mouth when making a pieced quilt. You have heard me say before that I am not a piecer. I make Art Quilts. The quilts that I enjoy making have NO corners to match, no seams to meet up to perfection and NO seam rippers allowed... I LOVE ART QUILTS.!

BUT I must say... ever since becoming a grandma, I am really enjoying making "regular" quilts that are used to cover my love ones up. Its like giving them all a special hug from me and this quilt has a minkie backing.... so it is as soft as a babies bottom. It will be perfect for a little one.

PostCard Challenge Workshop

My PostCard Swap Group had a challenge.We each sent a envelope with different fibers and beads for the
participant to make a card. You had no idea what was coming : that was the Challenge! Here's what I made
with the wonderful stuff Nancy G. sent me. Nancy sent me 23 different fibers and beads and hair and tinsel that
all had to fit on a 4"X6" postcard.

Georgie and His New Friend

This is my dog Georgie. We take Georgie for his last walk at 10pm. He sleeps better and WE sleep better if George goes out right before bed. We dont always use a leash. He has leg problems and doest not walk briskly.
We can keep up with him and steer him down the sidewalk with no problems.... OR SO WE THOUGHT!Last night, during our slow, meandering walk, Georgie ran like a streak of lightning. He crossed the street, without looking both ways, to meet a new friend. The new friend hopped kinda like a bunny. The color is unmistakable.Black with a white strip down its back. A SKUNK! They met... nose to nose... and then Georgie's new friend let him have it... It was tail to nose!
